Insulation rebates in Ontario
Insulation upgrades have historically qualified for federal and provincial energy-efficiency incentives. Programs open, close and change their terms regularly, so the only reliable answer is the one confirmed at the time of your project.

One program, two paths — and they work differently
Ontario's active home efficiency program is Home Renovation Savings, delivered by Save on Energy (IESO) together with Enbridge Gas. It has been reported as funded to 30 November 2026, and the administrators can modify or end it without notice. The federal Canada Greener Homes Grant closed on 31 December 2025.
Standalone attic stream
The simpler route: no energy assessment. The published maximum for a standard attic upgrade is tiered by the R-value you start from, and the caps across the tiers were reported as increased in January 2026.

Multi-measure assessment stream
For whole-home projects. Higher published ceilings, but it requires a registered energy advisor before and after the work, and at least two qualifying upgrades.

- Published ceilings differ by heating source — commonly reported as up to $5,000 for gas-heated homes and up to $10,000 for other sources, with insulation-specific figures up to $7,700 also published
- Post-work assessment confirms the improvement
Standalone attic stream — tiers as published
Tiered by the insulation already in your attic, upgrading to roughly R-50 or higher. These are published maximums, not quoted amounts, and the standalone path has also been described as calculated on a percentage of your insulation cost up to the tier cap.

Conditions reported for the standalone path
- The home is heated by natural gas, or by electricity, wood, oil or propane on the grid
- The property is a detached, semi-detached, townhouse or condominium
- Existing attic insulation is below the program's R-value thresholds
- The upgrade is carried out by a participating contractor
- A measure already rebated under an earlier program generally cannot be claimed again — a different area often can

No, and any contractor who does is guessing. The tier depends on what is measured in your attic and on the rules in force on the day your claim is processed.
Do I apply before or after the work?
It depends on the path. The multi-measure stream requires an assessment before anything starts; the standalone attic path has been described as claiming after the work is completed.
Is an energy assessment always needed?
No — the standalone attic path has been reported as requiring none. The multi-measure stream requires one before and one after.
What if the program ends?
It has been reported as funded to 30 November 2026 and can be modified or ended without notice. That is exactly why we never build a rebate into a price.
Do you handle the paperwork?
We provide the documentation the application needs. Whether your project can be submitted under the program is something to confirm with us for your specific case.
