Attic Insulation in Toronto & the GTA
Blown-in and batt insulation topped up to the R-60 recommended for Ontario homes, with the air sealing and ventilation work that makes it actually perform.
What we see in these homes
- Heating bills climbing year over year
- Snow melting off your roof faster than your neighbours'
- Cold upstairs bedrooms in winter, hot ones in summer
- Insulation you can see is thin, uneven or compacted
How the job runs
Attic inspection
Depth measured, ventilation checked, moisture and pest damage noted.
Air sealing first
Top plates, pot lights and penetrations sealed — insulation alone does not stop air movement.
Ventilation protected
Baffles installed so soffit vents keep working after the top-up.
Insulation installed
Blown to the specified depth, with depth markers left in place for verification.
The R-value ladder
| Level | Approximate depth | Where you find it |
|---|---|---|
| R-20 | 5 – 7 in | Pre-1980, never upgraded |
| R-31 | 9 – 11 in | 1980s – 1990s build |
| R-40 | 12 – 14 in | 2000s build or older top-up |
| R-60 | 16 – 20 in | Current recommendation |
Depth is the fastest way to read an attic. If you can see the top of the ceiling joists, you are under R-30.
What we install
Blown cellulose — dense, good coverage around obstructions
Blown fibreglass — light, stable, non-settling
Batt insulation where the assembly calls for it

Questions about this service
How much insulation should my attic have?
R-60 is the current recommendation for this climate zone. Many GTA homes built before the 2000s sit well below that.
Do I need to remove what's there?
Not always. If the existing material is dry, clean and pest-free, a top-up is often the better value.
Will this help in the summer too?
Yes. The same layer that keeps heat in during winter keeps attic heat out of your rooms in July.
